Ingredients
2 all-butter puff pastry sheets
1/2 cup tomato sauce
2/3 cups shredded Gruyere or cheddar cheese
2/3 cups ham or prosciutto
1 egg, beaten
Method
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Stretch first piece of pastry out onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Spread tomato sauce on the pastry to within 3/4 inch of edges.
Top with the cheese and ham to within 3/4 inch of edges.
Spread second pastry sheet onto a floured surface and score in a diagonal diamond pattern if desired.
Lay second sheet of pastry over top and pinch the two layers together with your fingers.
Brush top with the beaten egg.
Poke 10-12 holes in the top of the pastry to allow steam to escape.
Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown, turn oven down to 325 degrees, and bake for another 10-15 minutes.
Remove from oven, allow to cool, slice and serve.
