If you like art then this a good tour to take that isn’t that long, only about 2 hours. You’ll walk through the galleria hearing about the artwork and the Vasari Corridor that linked the galleria to the private residences of the Dukes.
We started outside in the Piazza della Signoria, watching the horses being fed and admiring the statues in the piazza and in the Loggia dei Lanzi.
Once entering the museum we were immediately surrounded by countless pieces of art and sculptures. We went for room to room learning about the different artists from the 14th century.
In one of the rooms was the only piece by Michelangelo, Tondo Doni, the Holy Family.
We did recognize other pieces of artwork, but there are so many it is a little overwhelming.
A nice break from all the artwork was a visit out onto the terrace where we had a great view of Florence and the clock tower.
We finished the tour with a few last pieces and then were free for the rest of the day. Since you are right by the river, I’d suggest heading over to The Boboli Gardens.
